What Exactly is Millennial Pink?

Everyone talked about Millennial Pink. It is everywhere on clothes, cosmetics, and even home décor. So what exactly is it?

When did it happen?

Some said the pink trends started from the “rose gold” of iPhone 6s in 2015. The next year, Pantone (the global authority on color) revealed the Rose Quartz (PANTONE 13-1520) and Serenity (PANTONE 15-3919) as the 2016 color trend. Fashion designers were tipping Rose Quartz over their collection as much as possible. And fashion blogs are teaching consumers how to dress trendy in pink. In the Spring 2017 PANTONE Fashion Color Report, the pink still takes one place but the color is changed to Pale Dogwood (PANTONE 13-1404), which is more subtle and smoky than Rose Quartz.  Since then, pink becomes the expression of chic and trendy.

How popular is Millennial Pink?

So how specific is Millennials pink? Actually, it is a range of shades in pink, from beige with a hint of blush to salmon pink. You can find pink everywhere, from Paris fashion week in 2017, Nike’s “Triple Pink” to Starbucks’ “Pink Drink”. It is popular because it brings sales to the millennials pink products, even a pink one-bedroom home sold for $2.2 million.

Why Millennials Pink has such a powerful urge to take over in retail, in fashion, and even in home decor? “Pink itself is quite a tactile color. It’s happy, it’s calming and it adds a bit of flair and confidence to a space when done well,” quoted by Lucy Fenton, director of homewares store Fenton & Fenton from an interview on Domain. Indeed, it also brings a bit of fun and focal point to the home décor.
